Start from the bottom of your legs and work upwards, you have to be quite firm with it but you will get used to this. Always work towards your heart never away from it, work towards the glands at the back of the knees, the groin then the underarms. Work upwards on the arms, dont forget the backs of your arms (stave off bingo wings). If you have a good friend get them to do it for you, you,ll be too soft on yourself and chicken out lol

That's interesting Teedy because I understood the brushing needed to be quite light to stimulate the lymphatic system which carries all the toxins away. That's what I was told anyway by my therapist when I used to go for MLD facials (manual lymphatic drainage) When she did the facials it was almost feather light in touch.
Maybe someone on here knows which is the right way?

Well, I'd say that since a lymphatic drainage massage can be pretty vigorous, I'd say body brushing would have to be too in order to be of any use.

In fairness I've only ever had it done on my face and it was a very very light touch - maybe it's different for the body? I do remember her saying to me when we were talking about body brushing that she said if your skin gets really red then you are probably brushing too hard....

I was also told to make the brush strokes as long as possible too.
  • Hi Tan

Here is a link to a website which had a 'How too' about body brushing.

    http://www.lizearle.com/index_2.php?&userpage=factsheetbodyb&S=

Dry body brushing is a simple technique that stimulates blood and lymph flow, exfoliates the skin and encourages new cell growth it helps control cellulite by bringing nutrients and oxygen to the outer layer of skin according to my dermatologist!

This post has reminded me I have a body brush which I bought last year from Elemis which is still in its box! :embarasse

    I hope this helps!

You have to be much more gentle when exfoliating your face than your body as the skin is more delicate. Maybe that's what she was talking about, if it was someone who was used to doing your facials.

You need to be reasonably vigorous to stimulate the cells and get them moving.

Well chickalittle, hope your all brushed up to perfection now. I never meant you to brush till you bleed lol, and the strokes towards the knees are the most comfortable for you to do, however if your doing sit-ups with your brush in hand, then you,ll be super-dooper-tommy cooper fabulous looking in time for the beach.
EVILMISSKITTY get that brush out now and go for it
