Trying to get me on gross misconduct

going up for gross misconduct ?
as a supervisor ( at this moment )
one month ago i was called into work as there was no supervisor / manager on at the time in my department.
i asked an operator to remove his rubbish that he had all over the floor, i asked him in a normal ok manor, i was then subjected to foal language and refusel to do it, i told him calm down and see me in the office after having a break, he did not.
when a manager finally came in i told him what happened, he taken a statement of me, then the operator and two other operators near by at the time, he suspended the operator.
outside that night the manager said he admitted it in a one on one with me.
now a month later i was called into HR with a manager from a different part of the plant to say what happened as it was the operators disaplinary. i told them what was on my statement and got told it didnt match up with the others, i told them it at the time was correct even though i was upset at the time.
they said no one heard him swear ( more so keeping out of i thought )
and that the operator had said I was picking on him and the witness i think have backed him up. that is a lie.
HR quizzed me over how i handled people, and said they will ask around.
they said something didnt add up with a witness statement, so they read that part to me, so it brought back memories of that night and said yes i remember him saying that , at which point HR said so you lied on your statement and it could be gross misconduct.
they then said have i told anyone about what happened that night i said a few people have asked about and i told them as it was wild fire in work. they said you should not have said anything, i replied no one told me and i have had no training.
Now today i am not in work and the operator has told his friends i am getting done for lying on a statement, i know this through friends.
some points : did he change his statement as he was in work for 3 weeks before his disciplinary? remember the manger said he admitted it in the first place! also how did the factory floor know before me as i am off for the weekend and not in till monday..
i have no warnings and have had no complaints against me and no time off, just very good appraisals.
hope you can help as i am upset and confused

hard to see without knowing the people involved and both sides of the story.
They are either wanting rid of you and see this as a way to get you out.
Believe you lied.
Can not do anything about this guy so are looking for excuses to back down and let him off.
Are just incompetent managers and do not know what they are doing.
My advice is to stay calm and just deal on the facts, do not get into why so and so knows this or why they are doing it to you.
When they accuse you of lying, very clearly say, you gave your statement to the best of your memory, any details that do not match with the other statements does not mean you are lying.
You do not have to go farther than that, as they have to prove you were, if they choose to believe you were, not much you can do about it I'm affaid, apart from appeal yourself if they were to sack you, then look into taking them to court, but that's not an easy process.
Will this manager that told you he had amited it to him not speak up for you?
as said, just keep repeating, you gave an honest account of what happened, don't get into much more than that, as it will just confuse the situation.
They may just be testing you to see if you will stick to your account, as remember if they were to sack this guy, they will need you to back up there case against him if it were to go to court/appeal, basically they will "believe" the one that comes up with the best story, whether it be tru or not.0
