Hur 575 , perhaps a rhetorical statement is lost on someone with a tendancy to back up the unscruplulous and indefensible ?

I do not have to prove anything to you but i do not need to be rude just because it did not make sense to me.
In my agency alone more than 20 people and everyone worked differently, I know court threats were just one big lie but got people to pay but we sent bailiff, so it vary in each company. I hardly threaten people I immediately suggest instalments plans for them, because some think they have to pay in full.

    Thanks for everyones advice.

The debt was one of many about six/seven years ago that we were repaying to a debt management company, it was passed on to another company as the first wasn't passing on the repayments. We had several accounts with different companies and with time and debts changing hands we totally forgot about this one. They originally phoned us last may and gave the usual threats about bailiffs and court orders so I sent them the letter not acknowledging the debt with a cheque for £1 which they cashed but never replied to the letter.

That is the last I heard from them until this card came through yesterday. It states that they want to discuss the recent contact we had from CSL but we haven't had any since last May. It's not bailiffs it doesn't even say they're debt collectors I had to google it to find out who they were and discovered that the company who contacted us last year and the company the letter came from are one in the same.

The problem is that it's in my husbands name and he won't be here for most of the day so I really don't want to answer the door to them as I know I will be a bit intimidated. I was going to email them with a copy of the letter I sent CSL last year and explain that as they have not replied they have no legal right to chase the debt and I will be reporting them to Trading Standars.

If they produced the paperwork I would be more than happy to pay it as we did owe it but as we had a mass of paperwork I can't be sure if it hasn't been repaid to someone else or if we do still owe then how much.
