Contract after completion of three month probation

As the title says really.

I've just completed a three month probation and have been advised that I should have my permanent contract this coming week.

However, has also found out that the company is about to be taken over by a rival, (announcement due this week) so my question would be is my current company OK to be issuing a contract whilst in the process of selling the business and will the new employer honour the contract.

Thanks for Reading and appreciate any insight with this sort if situation.

If the company is "taken over", ie bought, by another it will still exist. Any contracts will be valid. You could still be employed by the same company.

The company can issue contracts whilst things are being negotiated between it and a purchaser. Life goes on!

And, by the way, your "permanent" contract should show your start of employment as being whenever you started your probationary period (assuming there has been no gap).

Hopefully the new company will want to retain all the current employees, but of course because you've only worked there for 3 months either company can sack you for pretty much any reason for the next 21 months.

There should be no reason why they would not continue to issue you with your perm contract, although I assume that it would not be a new contract, just a letter confirming that you have successfully passed your probation?

I believe agrinnall is referring to the fact that you have limited employment rights until you have completed 2yrs continuous service, in that you are not eligible to bring a claim against them for unfair dismissal in the event that you are dismissed. You do still have some rights though, such as you cannot be discriminated by your employer.
