Twitter help? Think I've been hacked

Options
I tried to login this morning to Twitter, and it said my password was wrong. So I requested a password change to the email associated with my account but nothing came through. I then requested a password reset using my email address but was told that my email address wasn't recognised.

I contacted Twitter and they replied saying that there's nothing that they can do because the email address on the account is not the same one that I'm emailing them with, which just seems ridiculous to me as the account is still in my name with all my details on.

Whoever has access to my account hasn't posted anything, yet, but my address is on my messages from when I previously won a prize, and there's photos and all the other details that you register with. Does anyone know what I can do?

Are any tweets being sent from your Twitter?

No there aren't, I'm just not comfortable with the fact someone potentially has access to my details and I can't do anything :(

Never come across this before. Are you getting notifications to your email if anyone mentions you, or sends you a DM? If so, you could forward one of these notifications to twitter in an attempt to prove that this is indeed the email address that is linked to your twitter account.

I don't understand how Twitter are not being more helpful!? I have never changed my email linked to my Twitter but I would have thought they would have sent you notification to your old email (the one you have now) to say it had been changed. I know that if I make any changes to my Facebook account eg my password, they send me an email say that it has been changed. I would contact them again.

Unfortunately not, as whoever has access to my account has changed the email address on it!

Yes it does seem rather strange :( And it's just frustrating because I could easily prove it's my account by sending Twitter something with my name and address on. Also you would think Twitter would be able to see the email address and/or IP address that the account was initially registered with, but they're not even willing to help!

Yes completely agree - if Facebook email me to say my password has been changed, they say it was changed from xxx URL address. You are right - you should tell Twitter to match your URLS! I would be fuming with them if they don't! Good luck!

  • I have the same problem. Tried to login to my twitter account yesterday and got Wrong Username/Email and password combination. I use Roboform so it was saved to a passcard.

I wonder if Twitter is having problems? Seems strange for both of you to have problems. Hope you both get sorted :)

Yesterday when logging in it said that my username and password was wrong, despite me having it saved to a Roboform passcard, yet when I refreshed the page I was logged in!

  • I have tried refreshing the page but still get the same message.

Twitter are worse than useless with their "helpful emails"
