Options
Any ideas?

Tried Jif, white vinegar and nail polish remover. Got the excess off but its left a stain. Short of getting the sandpaper out I don't know what else to try??

Battery acid would have eaten some of the stone away.

I would think you will have to rub it down until lit is smooth.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I'd possibly try a steam cleaner.. it is just water after all. Any other chemical is likely to make the problem worse.

the sandpaper.. but don't hold out much hope. The resin holding the stone bits together will be fine but most stone is alkaline and the acid simply erodes it away.

Finest grade sandpaper possible and fingers crossed.
