I have 4 “satisfied” defaults on my credit file from 2004, is it true that,
Granted by just being there it is not good, but as the defaults gets older it has less and less bad impact on my credit score
As underwriters concentrate on how recent credit is run, 0-3years old

I believe that that may be true.

Try going to the moneysupermarket.com site and money and credit cards and doing a "smart search"

If you put differerent information in on here you can see how your rating moves - excellent, good, fair, needs improvement etc and you can see what sort of credit cards you may be able to get should you want a card. This scoring system seems to be quite accurate for me.

There seems to be a similar scoring system for loans (I don't do loans so I can't vouch for how reliable it is)
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
