I am looking for a more challenging role. My current one makes me brainwashed as there have been a couple of hours per day where I don't have any work and slowly clean the dept.
Cannot find my employer book.
Can my employer force me to work 5 weeks? If they allow me to leave before 5 weeks, what things do they do? Most of the jobs I am applying for have 3-6 weeks of training. Done this sort of training and there are 8-12 of us and they have training sessions starting every 3-4 weeks. I don't want to be missing out on a job opportunity.
You need to find your contract or call HR. I've only ever had contracts with a months notice period on them. One friend I know recently left a company she's worked for since 1991 - worked a months notice, then out.
With regards to being forced to work the notice - nobody can force you to do it, but leaving on bad terms isn't a good idea. I say suck it up and work your notice. There could also be other implications - such as not being paid / references etc. on the back of not doing so.
Sounds like you're determined to go - dig out that contract and make it happen! :j:www: House Deposit = 100% Purchase Fees = 44%

I have always had a contract which states 1 month's notice. One employer did change our contracts to state 3 months notice which was bloody outrageous as I was not management let alone senior management...... there aren't many employers who will wait 3 months for an admin worker to fill their post.
Anyway, have also known it to be 6 months for very senior positions, ie. board level.
For weekly/hourly paid positions it is often one week.
You need to find your employee handbook or T&Cs, if it's been a long time since you were issued one you could ask HR for a new copy just telling them you can't find yours. It's useful to know where yours is for many reasons for reference.0
