  • I microwave my rice. Always have done.

8oz of rice in a big bowl, throw in 1 and a 1/2 pints of boiling water, put plate on top and micro on full for 12 mins, take plate off and micro for another 12.

    Rice done!

  • Thanks for your replies.

I'm going to have a go at doing it in a pan following the advice above, but I may still get a rice cooker just in case.:rotfl:

And if I manage to master the art of rice in a pan, then I can always return the rice cooker. :)

I have a rice cooker. I got it so could set it to cook rice whilst I am at work to come home to so I can take advantage of solar panels.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
  • I used to be rubbish at rice. Bought a plastic microwave cooker off ebay for £7. It's great, easy rice and even my sushi rice turns out well in it. Plus I put frozen veggies in it to cook too.
Making mistakes is not the end of the world, though it often feels that way!

Might be worth looking on Freecycle or eBay for rice cookers. Sound like one of those gadgets that people buy and then stash away in a cupboard - may be a few going spare after Christmas too?

For £14 or so it is worth buying a rice cooker that you don't have to watch. I need a new one now as my old one burned out. We eat quite a lot of rice so it is well used.
