whatever kind of interview it is, you always wear a white shirt, black suit jacket and skirt or trousers, tie if youre a male, nice smart formal shoes
today i got told by a work colleague to dress fashionably so the way i looked i would be remembered ?
attire as if i was going to a party ? in short, jazz it up a bit ?
i told her, o they wont forget me, but seriously, i shall stick to my white shirt, black jacket and skirt with smart shoes and sell myself as myself, i have been in the same company for ten and a half years, have worked most departments, know how the business works and intend to encourage the branch im hoping to acquire a future career with to expand like the larger branch i am leaving, while adapting to my new management teams idea, i can share a wealth of experience and idea currently shared by my current mangement team

Is your colleague a competitor for the same job, trying to ensure you don't get it?

My opinion? FAR better to be over- than under- dressed. And your normal interview attire doesn't sound overdressed to me, anyway!!!!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

Being a male I aim for chino's and a blazer with smart shoes but always vary the tie. If the organisational ethic can handle a bit of humour then I'll wear one of my ''Bart Simpson'' or ''Disney ties'' and if not then its the old faithful silk tie from M&S.
Good luck0 -

i think she doesnt want me to leave my present position, anyway, best interview type thing ive ever done and the lovely hr manager will phone me by the end of the week to let me know when they have a position for me as theyve just been refurbished and presently moving staff around departments and moving departments around, they welcomed me to the team, very happy0

I think that white shirt/black suit looks a bit too "waiter/ess-ey" so I tend to use a coloured shirt or softer suit such as navy or charcoal.
The key is to dress for the job above the one you are applying for - applying for a play group worker, I would hope to see you in smart but practical clothes hat you could get down & play with the kids in, high heels & a short tight skirt would suggest to me that you didn't really understand the job! Similarly if you are applying for a very artsy type job, a more flamboyant/stand out type approach would be more appropriate and for a law/banking type role then double cuffed shirts with cuff links for men, a well fitting suit, well polished shoes and a briefcase rather than a trendy handbag would be very appropriate.
Having said all that, always err on the side of classic conservative for an interview!0 -
i think that is the last outing for that jacket anyway so i will purchase a navy, charcoal and a new black one soon along with some pastel shirt, thanks0

ignore your colleage. They dont have your best interest at heart.0

My first ever interview was for a summer job, working on a production line for a factory. I wore a suit for that interview and got offered a job the same day.
Since then I always wear a suit for every interview.
Sad but true - the majority of the human race do take first time appearance very seriously. Not matter what the situation is.0
