Venue decoration

Hi,

Just wondering, how are people decorating their venues? We are having our ceremony in 1 room in the hotel and then reception in another so we have 2 rooms to decorate. I don't have any help, just OH and myself. The hotel say they are happy to lay the tables (favours cards etc) but no decor.

How are the rest of you getting around this?

  • We are using some decorations for both. :)

We have birdcages which will be used to line the aisle, for our outdoor ceremony, the hotel will then bring them inside following the ceremony and place them in the centre of tables as our centrepieces. Some decor will be so versatile and if you are off having photos somewhere, moving the decorations from the ceremony room to the reception room will be hardly noticeable. :)

  • Are you having flowers? If so your florist may have some ideas about things that could be moved about, for example a display on the registrar's table that could then go on the top table for the meal. They may also be able to help you decorate the venue on the day - most florists I've looked at include setup at the venue in the cost.

Otherwise - I would check with the hotel if there's anything they won't allow (our venue won't let us have proper candles but will let us have battery-powered ones for instance) and then go from there. Do you have a theme/colour scheme? What time of year is your wedding? Do you want something quite relaxed or a bit more formal?

Also if you are bringing in your own lights for whatever reason they will need to be PAT tested beforehand.

    Hi,

Thank you both for your replies. I have asked the venue if they have any restrictions including candles and she said as long as they are in a holder we are fine. We're having an autumn themed wedding so possibly having an aisle runner (though waiting to see the ceremony room) and lanterns down the aisle with silk rose petals down either side.

The aisle will only be short as we only have 30 people coming, so we won't need many lanterns or silk rose petals. We'll also probably use these somewhere else, possibly ask the hotel to being them inside for the centre pieces x

We are having our reception in a barn and gardens so we are are having bunting :)
On the invitations we have asked every body to gift us some material from their home, pillow cases, old clothes etc to make the flags from them. It is me, my mum ans mum in law that are making them so its a bonding thing as well and i am sure people will try and find 'their' bit of material hanging up on the day. A sweet family heirloom of the two families joining in a way.
We are also growing flowers to put in jam jars with jute string round them, solar sting lights in the trees and fake candles in jars areoud the place :)
  • Lantern centrepieces could look really nice, perhaps with some fallen leaves or rose petals scattered around them on the tables. If you need someone to move them is it something a family member or usher/bridesmaid (if you're having them) could do quickly whilst you get your photos taken?

I was thinking of having white ornamental bird cages and some burgundy/orange coloured petals and some candles. We're not having ushers or bridesmaids, just flower girls. I might see if we can get the staff just to move the bird cages from the floor to the tables in the other room, surely that's not difficult?!?!

Lol you're not the worst bride ever, I would say deep ration obviously isn't important to you, which is the way it should be!!! I'm just a perfectionist, and I can see me being a right grump x

I left mine simple. Had flower centre pieces - lilies. Chair covers with teal sash and teal crystals that matched the theme - really cheap from ebay. took my flowers from the church for the top table at the reception. Honestly there was so much on the tables with the numbers and menu that it didn't need anything more.
