Hi,
I need advice on behalf of a friend. He was self employed for a number of years as a driving instructor; unfortunately he became ill and was unable to work. Subsequently he went into arrears with his mortgage, bank loan, car repayments etc. He did look at the bankruptcy route, however decided against it.
He has since come to an agreement with his creditors to repay a small amount on a regular basis.
In the past year he has applied for a number of jobs applications, all within the finance sector. He has been told on a number of occasions that the position is his, subject to further checks. Unfortunately he believes when the bank checked out his finance history they refused him the position.
My question is this. He has been offered financial help from his parents, they believe that if they repay the debt his credit rating will improve and he will be employable within the finance sector.
Do banks/ building societies etc search for the credit file of a potential employee??
If he clears his debt how long would it take for his credit to improve?
Thank you in advance for your help, if I posted on the wrong thread I apologise.

How much does he owe? Has he checked his credit records recently? Does he have CCJs?
How much do the jobs he is applying for pay? Couldn't he look for jobs in a different sector as it doesn't sound as though he has special finance qualifications?
Did he not ask the firms why they didn't offer him a job?
Sorry but this all sounds a like a very vague hope for his parents to pay out good cash for.0 -

Thank you so much for the prompt reply, there is no CCJ'S, I don't have all the specifics regarding how much he owes, however I can find out. I believe the job he recently applied for was a Halifa* call centre. Where he lives all the jobs being advertised at present are in the finance sector.?? go figure!! I am a friend of his mothers so she will ask him to find out why he did not get the job.0
