Chocolate Butter Icing

I am looking to decorate a cake like a racetrack. I have bought some roll-out icing for the base, which has cost me more than I thought, so I want to make some butter icing for the main 'racetrack'.

Can anyone give me some recipes or quantities I can use? Will it be the same consistency needed to pipe around the bottom of the cake and to decorate the top?

Try this. Sift 25g cocoa and 300g icing sugar a spoonfull at a time into 175g soft butter.

This should be fine for icing and piping. If you need it a bit stiffer (if the weather's warmer, it'll be softer) add a bit more icing/cocoa.
