Oh! In my sister's car, sorry :rotfl::D
Ug, I still didn't *do* enough after that tho (we'd finished by 11.30), so I slept badly after about 3.30, grr. But today, I have a to-do list I really want to get through:
- two phone calls, including to ex-business partner, who is 70 today :eek::eek: he still plays football and tennis and does free weights, so don't think of him as a normal 70 year old
- washing machine (is on)
- cleaning, mostly to ready for autumn and winter.
- cat blog
- check out travel details for Nat Trust trip with sister on Friday.
- wash hair. Yes, I need to allocate energy for that ....
- experiment with Yorkshire puddings, which I have never, ever made, in my halogen oven - after some research, they seem a good way to use up lots of the flour I have, plus get some protein (the eggs) and without eating any sugar, which I really don't need. I'll report back
Little trip around the forum first tho!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Yorkshire puddings! Yum:j
My late Mum used to make Yorkshires with everything:T. At least every meal that had gravy with it also had Yorkshire puddings:rotfl:. They were absolutely delicious and I suppose when we were children in the 1950s and food (and money) was in shorter supply they filled a gap and meant less meat was needed;). Mum was still making them just for herself even in her late 80s. Old habits die hard.0 -
Oooh I love yorkies

We never had them, sadly, we used to fill up on bread and jam in that way (much less healthy!). My sister's great at making them, but to her they're so ordinary its hard to get her to talk about them. So I found a recipe online adapted to my halogen, I don't use the house oven at all any more.
Got a fair amount done:
- did both phone calls - one was driving, I texted the other
- washing machine did its thing, I even managed to put stuff on the line
- got an email that the kombucha maker, the Kilner one, is back in stock in John Lewis, so I bought that, it'll be delivered to my Waitrose tomorrow, so I can do a bit of food shopping too.
- checked out travel details for Friday, going to these out of the way places is brilliant, it just needs a bit of working out.
- went a proper walk, tried to walk a bit faster than usual after watching the Angela Rippon thing about lifestyle.
- I think I'd rather do some garden work than anything on this morning's list, so thats where I'm off to2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Can you kindly post the recipie? thanks.
I never use house oven either.

Waste of money in my book when cooking for one!
Once they're up to heat, they shouldn't need much energy to keep the temperature up.
Though I must admit, I do prefer the infrared ovens. A frozen chicken to a roasted chicken in 1 hour... :T"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Hiya!
Ovens: partly what beanie said, especially because mine is an outsize one, underneath a five burner hob - I don't have the energy to cook enough at one time to make use of that extra space.
It's also at death's doorit takes maybe half an hour to heat up, it's just not good enough. And the numbers have rubbed off the knobs, so I don't know what heat its on (got the manual online, and that didn't help either!) I use it to store big baking trays that I don't want to get rid of yet
Not cooked the Yorkshires yet, but this is the recipe, beanie, hope it suits you, after some I've seen it might be on the frugal side (chucking another egg in with works frugal stuff, I find!):
Edited To Add:
these timings are so detailed, I was sure they'd be good. They're not! Not in my halogen anyway. They need to be cooked more slowly, for longer. I never measured my ramekins (which are actually little pudding basins) and the rise was a good couple of inches above the edge, eek. Which was very nice and all that, but looked a bit problematic. Don't know if it actually is, sorry. The other thing is that because you heat up the ramekins so properly, you have to be able to pour. I used a stainless steel measurement scoop, which was good enough, but didn't *really* work. Fun experiment though, and definitely gives me a savoury way to easily use up my flour stocks
Yorkshires
175g plain flour
225ml milk
85ml cold water
2 eggs
pinch of salt
4 x 1cm cube of lard (I'm not going to use lard, I'll use veg oil)
4 x 200ml ramekins
1. Put the cubes of lard in the base of each ramekin and heat on the low rack for 7 mins at 250C.
2. Put flour and salt in mixing bowl, make a well, add the eggs and whisk.
3. Slowly add milk, then water, always whisking.
4. Pour the mixture, carefully and equally, into ramekins.
5. Cook on low rack for 10 mins at 250, then
For 20 mins at 200, then
For 5 mins at 150.
For mini toad in the hole, add sausage at point one.
Hope that helps! My aim is to get that experiment done today, if so I'll let you know how it goes. Though I'm a rubbish cook anyway. Just a factSave
