It's great when you get new information.

I met my friends for tea, and one is really into family history, and still subscribes to Ancestry.

She'd kindly printed up 2 pictures of my great great uncle Solomon, which I hadn't been able to see on Ancestry, even on free access days.

I'm delighted with them, and can even tell exactly where then were taken as I recognise the back grounds, in one photo, with his horse and cart there are a group of children with him. I'm fairly sure one of the children is my nan, but it's difficult to be certain. But it's a great photo.

There's always something new in family history

Goldie, how lovely! I found out about one of his other sons, as well, because the crew have to give their home addresses (in case they die!) and there was an address I recognised. Four of the crew, including him, were no-shows on that voyage :D norty great great uncle :p

I've had a relaxing few days at home - basically because its been tipping down, even a quick trip to the local town centre saw me soaked through, needing to change all my clothes  Dehydrating experiment too! That was quite fun, though next time I'll bring the radio down and have a dance while I'm chopping things up :j

But today, I'm off to Wakehurst Place, to make one of my last uses of the annual season ticket, which runs out mid-November. Hopefully, they've got a bit more in the shop, in the runup to Christmas, and I'll just go say goodbye to the mansion, which is a beautiful Jacobean thing. Won't be bothering going to the estate as a whole again, there are plenty of free walks round here, and plenty of big pubs that do better food.

Oh, and I bought next year's diary on Monday - £1, as opposed to the snooty guy at the autumn show selling them for £2, who sneered at me when I said no thanks. And this one has pretty cartoons of foxes and badgers and rabbits :) I've never done that before, but I'm retiring, and its fun :)

:T pretty diaries are a source of joy :T
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

They certainly are, aren't they :j it makes me smile when I see it :)

The artist I met at Wakehurst Place made me smile too - "I'm 60 and I've never been happier" - says it all, really :j

Except that its sunny today :j:j:j lurvely blue sky. And I too had a tear in my eye at the end of the Bake Off finale :o

w/m and d/w both been on, I need a second breakfast now, then off to play in the sunshine, nothing huge, but I'll certainly pop out to "my" sweet chestnut tree and see how its coming along.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: but the writing I *have* done is special - the weekly countdown to retirement :j

I've currently abandoned the number of days countdown - its too detailed at this distance, for me, anyway. Next week is week 46, by the way - but 4 or 5 of those (not sure about the timing of the Norfolk holibob, given other things are happening) are holiday, so its 41 or 42 work weeks.

Been to the supermarket, stocked up the storecupboard. Its costing a mint, but the only things I need to buy for ages is a weekly supply of frozen food :)

Am currently preparing for mega-stardom by refreshing my apocalypse novel :D in the meantime, I'll be visiting a local garden centre tomorrow with my sister :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: dreams are sometimes a bit different from reality :rotfl: though even megastars like garden centres sometimes, I suppose :D

  • I cried my eyes out at the Bake Off final!

I adore new diaries and calendars. I can honestly say filling them in with dates, appointments etc gives me deep joy. And what a date you have in your 2016 calendar, I'm looking forward to the retirement party :):) xx

With countdowns I think it's best to leave them for a while, then when you have a count up it's a pleasant surprise to find out how low the figure has got.

Although, by the time you get in to single figures, you can't think of anything other than the countdown!:rotfl:

ATB, I'm glad you're joining me on both of those - there was definitely deep joy involved in both :A

Agreed :rotfl: thats how I am with my French mortgage - every quarter, I get a letter from the mortgage bank telling me how long it is to go, and I jump for joy then too :j

Finishing that French mortgage will certainly ease the losses somewhat, though of course by then I'll be a megastar on kindle and dominating the science fiction/dystopian bestseller list  Or I'll have downsized to a studio flat in a small town with no railway station to up the prices. One or the other :p

Unfortunately I won't be making my fortune today - am dizzy with lack of sleep, my neighbours stopped playing music at 1am and started again at 4.15. Most unpleasant. I may have to splash out on sound insulation materials ...
