SA Tax Question - Flu vaccine

Back in November I paid for a flu vaccine in Boots. Couple of reasons: I am self-employed so getting ill means losing work and earnings; and my wife had just found out that she was pregnant. So it seemed like a very good idea on both fronts. Can I include the cost of the vaccine in my expenses when I do my tax return and hence get tax relief on it?

Thanks.

Seriously? How would you expect to show that is solely for Business use?

Generally any healthcare costs are a no-no.

The thrust of hmrcs argument is that there is an intrinsic duality of purpose - it affects your personal life outside of the business as well. As there is no way to apportion the 'business use' of the flu jab, you can't claim anything. There's a fair few tribunal cases on it.

would it really be worth it even if you could? Assuming you work 40 hours a week that is 24% of the hours in a week
cost of jab £13, if they allowed you to apportion the 'business' time, £3.09
tax saving if 20%, tax saving 62p
  • Thanks to Laurajo and Caz3121 for their sensible answers. I'd seen something about businesses being able to claim back the costs of innoculating their workforce so I thought it might have been applicable to the self employed too.
