Westgate timeshare

We own a Westgate timeshare in vacation villas in Florida week 48 and are trying to give it back to them, they told us last night that we cannot hand it back in or they can't buy it back as its against the law. We don't know what would happen if we didnt pay the maintenace, would they file some sort of law suit against us or worst. We are getting very worried about how we can get out of this. Has anybody had similar problems or know of a lawyer that can help us.

Firstly, how much is the maintenance charge, what is the occupancy and is there any finance outstanding?

What does the contract you signed say? Is it under US or UK law?

Thanks for the reply, maintenace is £367 a year and occupancy sleeps up to 6 bedded and 2 on sofa bed and its all paid for, deeds so no mortgage, week 48 red season.
