Free Avoca 7 tablet with tastecard at £49.99

I've just been on the tastecard website searching for restaurants and they are running an offer whereby if you buy a membership for £49.99 you get an Avoca tablet (which they say is worth £99) for free.

I already have a tastecard, bought at £34.95, but this seems a pretty good deal to me - a tablet for an extra £15.

Here's the link:

Looks like limited stock on the tablets, but there is a countdown.

I've done some digging and it looks like this was the tablet that was on offer through Carphone Warehouse pre Christmas. They were selling at £99 and dropped to £49 for a pre-Christmas sale: http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/carphone-warehouse-slashes-price-of-avoca-tablet-to-49

Looks like they sold out quickly though.
  • It's a basic tablet but it is dual-core, which will help with performance. I wouldn't expect iPad or even Hudl quality folks, but for £49 I'll be taking a look.

I bought one of these tablets from the Carphone Warehouse in October and here are my thoughts (for what they are worth):
Screen: Not great. I've got an iPad as well and next to each other you can clearly see which is the £400 product and which is the £99 one
Speed: not bad. It's fine for browsing in my experience, although I don't run many Apps on it so couldn't comment on more technical tasks
Camera: Is ok, although to be frank I don't use the camera on either my iPad or my Avoca as I don't use Skype and for any photos us my htc one phone
Battery life: Pretty poor. It might last for 6-8 hours if fully charges, but my iPad is far better.

Overall: You get what you pay for. If you hold it up against an iPad for comparison then you'd never use it, but if you want something that you can be a bit careless with and just for basic tasks then it's worth it for the price. It also means I can palm it off on the kids when they try to take my iPad off me.......

Seems like a good deal. I have a Blackberry Playbook which is a nice tablet but with it not being android you are restricted to the apps you can get. Wondering if getting this tastecard and tablet for £49.99 and selling the Blackberry Playbook on ebay might be a good option

    Update:
Tablet has arrived, all in good working order. DUCKBRFC's write-up above is pretty accurate to be honest. It's no iPad, but at £49 including a tastecard I'd say it's worth it.
Their website is saying there is still stock available.
  • The card + tablet deal was irresistible. You can think of it as a free tablet, or a free taste card, or each for £25. The card is immense fun, takes you places you wouldn't think to go. You can save a fortune on food but you will almost certainly offset these savings by having more drinks. But that's fine, you always said you should get out more. And drink more. etc.

The rubbo tablet is hilarious. I sort of love it. It takes about 15 minutes to switch on. And the operating system is actually fine, but the thing is most apps "do not support this device" - 4od is up front about this, and the two you really want, iPlayer and, crucially, YouTube are hit and mostly miss. It's fine as an e-book reader and notebook. The screen isn't pleasant to watch films on really. It's fine, it's fine. Really it's the app support that is killing it. I'll find some use for it, but, you know, caveat emptor..
  • Be very wary of this offer. If you have a problem with the tablet(mine was faulty) Tastecard wash their hands of it and refer you to Avoca. Their Support is fiendishly difficult to contact.
  • Hi,
I went for this deal and yes, Avoca are so difficult to contact that their website is no longer valid.

Google search only finds a year old youtube reset video posted by Avoca.

How did you contact Avoca ?

    Thanks,
    Steve
