The only thing I'd change is the line about how much it's costing you. Whilst I know only too well how true that is ;) it's a bit graceless - can come across to your guests that you resent paying for them to attend your wedding... Which I hope isn't the case!

Otherwise it's perfect. Not cold or businesslike at all! :T

PS Regarding word-for-word v key points, I did mine word for word in big print & it was absolutely the right choice. Bearing in mind it's presumably after the meal, you'll have had a glass of wine or two... Don't risk it. :)
  • From my own experience - PRACTICE! Practice reading it, a good dozen times, out loud.

In general, it really needs some punctuation, or you're are not going to know when to breath as you read it.

    2. I would add, at the end "On behalf of my Wife (pause for cheers) and I, I would like to thank everyone for coming from far and wide to spend our special day with us". Ignore this if everyone is local.

    3. Add something like
[GIVE PRESENTS] - a bit like stage directions. This will stop you ploughing through to the next step.

Otherwise, pretty good. As you practice it, you'll find the right places for punctuation.
  • I love it. Well done!

Yes, I agree with Ringo - you *have* to say 'on behalf of my wife and I' at least once - everyone loves to cheer that bit :)

I think it's lovely, and you certainly will get the tears flowing.

I do a lot of public speaking in my professional life, but have never welled up at work, whereas I found making my wedding speech very emotional. I ended up reading it almost word for word, despite having practiced it many times, so was very glad to have it all written out. Having it on cards won't stop you ad libbing a bit if you can, but if you're a bit overwhelmed/tipsy :) you'll be able to struggle though regardless!

After the wedding I wrote it out nicely in a letter for my husband to keep.

Hope you and Laura have a marvellous day :)
