You might want to be careful with the whole idea. People might think you're hanging around the office waiting to be assaulted.

    (See what I did there.)

    Hearty LOL!!!!

Just a few questions to consider:
    1) do you offer a non-peanut option for peanut allergy sufferers?
    2) will you be happy with a bloke munching round your crotch area?
    3) how will you make sure that Susie from accounts doesn't cheat the system by breaking off your peanut tie & running back to her desk with it whilst you are distracted by Jason from Sales munching round your crotch?
    4) have you considered a meal deal? most people like a drink with their lunch
    5) lunch for most people is more than a mouthful of peanuts - have you considered slices of salami on the arms? maybe fruit on your back?
    6) are you disability friendly? How will you make sure that Mary who is a wheelchair user gets her fair chance at the munch?
    7) how will this work in offices where people have a staggered lunch break - eg my assistant goes at 12:30-1 & I have 1-1:30
    8) when you say "run around the office" what exactly do you envisage? How will this work in places where there are multiple small offices rather than one big open plan room? Will you go to the MDs office or just call centres etc?
    9) how far in advance do people need to buy their tickets & how does it work - do you have a set start time so you can monitor when people have had their 5 minutes & how will you stop random people who haven't got tickets joining in?
    10) do you have public liability insurance in case you fall when you are in my office - I mean, if you are running around distracted will you see the Yucca plant in the corner or the water cooler round the side of that partition? What about when Big Malc the judo black belt decides to pin you to the floor to get maximum munch for his money?

Remmeber, you'll need to warn people that your peanut suit may contain nuts.

Actually peanuts aren't technically nuts - only the OP in this case!:rotfl:

I am beginning to see more and more problems with this. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

So basically the consensus is that it is a no go?

There might be an idea that would work from this but for this exact idea, probably not going to work.

Maybe think more along the lines of something similar you could do for a stag/hen do or a kids party. Running and throwing sweets or something.

Again thanks for your thoughts. To answer your questions

    1) do you offer a non-peanut option for peanut allergy sufferers?
I may introduce a “non-peanut area” most probably back of arms for allergy suffers to offer raisins, dates, pigeon sugar, etc, etc.

    2) will you be happy with a bloke munching round your crotch area?
No. Although if it was Susie from accounts I might not!

    3) how will you make sure that Susie from accounts doesn't cheat the system by breaking off your peanut tie & running back to her desk with it whilst you are distracted by Jason from Sales munching round your crotch?
There will be no tie. I may have to leave the crotch area peanut free.

    4) have you considered a meal deal? most people like a drink with their lunch
Good point I could supply certain beverages.

    5) lunch for most people is more than a mouthful of peanuts - have you considered slices of salami on the arms? maybe fruit on your back?
As mention it will be peanuts only with a few selected other options for those with a nut allergy. I think salami would cause too much mess!

    6) are you disability friendly? How will you make sure that Mary who is a wheelchair user gets her fair chance at the munch?
Do I really have to consider that? Maybe I could do a wheelchair special where I move around in a wheelchair coated with peanuts.

    7) how will this work in offices where people have a staggered lunch break - egmy assistant goes at 12:30-1 & I have 1-1:30
I can do more than one visit.

    8) when you say "run around the office" what exactly do you envisage? How will this work in places where there are multiple small offices rather than one big open plan room? Will you go to the MDs office or just call centres etc?
    I don’t know sorry.

    9) how far in advance do people need to buy their tickets & how does it work - do you have a set start time so you can monitor when people have had their 5 minutes & how will you stop random people who haven't got tickets joiningin?
Another good point. Some more problems I see here.

    10) do you have public liability insurance in case you fall when you are in my office - I mean, if you are running around distracted will you see the Yucca plant in the corner or the water cooler round the side of that partition? What about when Big Malc the judo black belt decides to pin you to the floor to get maximum munch for his money?
    Good point.

Thanks for raising these questions. A lot of them I hadn’t thought of. I am considering now cancelling my meeting about the loan on Monday. Do you think I should? Or do you think I might as well go and see the bank as I have nothing to lose?

A few more points for me to ‘chew over’ (pun intended this time!).

If not I do have a couple more business ideas in the pipeline, so onwards and upwards!

    Hi fufu_banterwaite

I’ve been pecan at your post and personally I’m nuts about the idea, even if some people think it’s “off the wall(nut)”. It sounds like great fun and I’d certainly pay a pound to chase a peanut clad person around the office to gain a snack!

That said, I think Flyonthewall makes some really good points about practical issues such as health and safety, hygiene and the like. It’s a slightly delicate thing to address, but what if you need to go to the toilet while you’re in an office? Do you change clothes before you do that? What if the only nuts left (after several customers) are in, shall we say “underwear” areas of your suit? You might need to think about some of the logistics…

I noticed that you mentioned that you’ve forged ahead and made an appointment to discuss a loan with the bank manager. Good for you! If you need any additional help thinking about how to set up self employed as a one person peanut vendor, then organisations like Great Business and Complete Business Start-Up can give you advice on all aspects of setting up and running a business, however jaunty it may be.

Best of luck with it! I hope it’s a cracking success!

  • Thank you internet. When my thursday afternoon was looking down, your endless source of.....well, this kind of thing, has made my day.
  • So I went through with the meeting with my bank to discuss this business idea and a possible loan. Basically the loan advisor had to stifle his laughter on a couple of occasions whilst I was going through the business plan and then at the end told me it probably wouldn’t work. I actually felt quite humiliated

Needless to say I won’t be taking this one any further for the time being. I do have another business idea brewing though that I definitely think might work.

    I actually felt quite humiliated.

It's probably for the best. If a meeting with the bank leaves you feeling humiliated, running around offices while people grope you for peanuts is probably not for you.:rotfl:
