Wednesday 15th January What Small DFW Things Will You Be Doing Today??!

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending :money:

Happy wednesday, 15th january 2014 DFW members
It looks a sunny day so I might put the washing on the line instead of on the airers.Spoke to soon, it is now raining.

Having a Nsd after my big walk around the shops yesterday afternoon. Will tell you all about it later.

Yesterday I spend about 4 hours walking around the shops, I can when in the right mood. Popped in several shops. But just what did I buy?
    Not a lot. I bought x2 summer dresses from our M&S outlet store - they had a sale on. Dress 1 = £9. dress 2 = £5.
BUT I did not pay anything! oh no, I used a £10 voucher I had from completing surveys and the rest I used a gift voucher I had been given for my birthday a while ago.

Then I trotted up to Tesco, just outside of town centre.I had the click and collect jigsaw to collect.Free with Tesco clubcard points.

I did my weeks grocery shopping while I was there.
I was lucky, late afternoon and there was a lot of yellow stickers about.
total spend for the weeks shopping = £ 32.88 for 4 adults.
£2.37 gained in multi buys and saved £10.60 using coupons I had.

I have been around unplugging and switching lights off today - saving on fuel bill. Read the meters and we are still in credit so that is ok.

    Done a few surveys.

My free cards came this morning via postie from Snap fish. Not what I was expecting! The flat cards are ...well! just that. They look like a photo with plain white envelopes. I was expecting more card like/ notelet type with opening so you could write your message inside. But no, it is more like a photo and you can write on the back.

Postie also brought a packet of Healthy dog food - regular.(freebie) I hope Bonnie will like it.

I see in the MSE newsletter there is a lot of chat about holidays. It is the season to be bombarded with brochets you know! we have had several through our letter box.
We are British and are looking to stay on one of our own Islands this year for a short break. Oh wants to go to The Isle of White.

I have uploaded my recent photo's onto the desk top computer. No shop printing that costs money.

Enough chatting, I have some ironing to do.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)
  • Instead of mooching around the boots sale today for things of like but really don't need. I've taken some extra hours at work. An extra £15 in the kitty. Well about £12 after fuel. Having to work 5 hours for it though.

Aggghhh! Still full of lergy, but at least I'm on my feet this week & not so miserable.
    Today's small money saving things:
*Ran the washer overnight on Economy 7 tariff.
*All drying on heated airer (meter readings show this to be using much less electricity than cranking up upstairs heating to dry clothes).
    *Shared bath water.
*Washed hair using the products I was sent to test, which are very good & were full size, so are lasting a nice long time.
    *Made bread.
*Took pasta bake out of the freezer for dinner (made it from leftover Christmas ham & cheese).
    *Entered a crossword competition.
*Found & washed some nice jars from my recycled jar cupboard ready for marmalade, when it's ready.
    *Made tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Make marmalade. I've just started prepping the fruit so will be busy with this for the next few hours. If anyone is thinking of making marmalade (it makes a nice gift when the jar is tarted up with a pretty label, lid, ribbon etc - all recycled of course!) then now's your time, as it's seville orange time. Seville oranges make the best marmalade but they only have a very short season, they are usually gone by Feb in my experience. I've had such positive feedback from people who've tried it, that I always make a double quantity now so that I can pop some away for presents. If sealed correctly in sterilized jars, it will be perfectly good to give at Christmas.
OK....gotta go....got another bowlful of oranges to juice & cut up.
Have a good day everyone & my sympathies to fellow plague-sufferers.

  • Morning all,

Some small dew things for me today, I'm away with work, feeling totally crap & cannot shift my headache which I've had since mid day yesterday.

Was onto my 5th NSD until just now when I've had to go and get some paracetamol & water for my headache, was lured by boots 70% reductions too and got some lip balm which should have been £6 and it cost me £1.80 with the discount. Feeling bad now!

    DFW things for today
    Check banking on my break
No lunch costs or dinner costs (work covers this)
All meals at home from stores, phoned husband early this morn to remind him.
No diesel costs today as car at home.
If paid by music magpie today, transfer over to my credit card.

Have a lovely day guys, love reading what others plan to do towards DFW days. It's really spurring me on. Feel like I've let the team down a bit with my impulse buy this morning :(

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for starting us off DNMS.
Good Advice - I can highly recommend the Isle of Wight, I used to go there every year as a child & loved it. There's a proper sandy beach & various sights for adults & not just kids so I say go for it. There were some deals on Groupon that might be coming back if you're in no immediate rush to book now.
Foxgloves - Hope you feel better soon.
SettingIn - Don't feel bad as it was a good bargain, & one little slip up won't spoil how far you've come, just keep at it :)
La e - Good luck with the viewings, we hope to get our house on the market in a few months!

    Today's plan:-
    • Making use of free water at work
    • Staying in for my lunch break to avoid spending
    • Dinner from meal plan - Fajitas
    • Charging phone at work
    • Log calories on free app (MyFitnessPal, feel free to add me if you need some motivation, it'll help me too! I'm hawaiian_supergirl)
    • Check online banking & get DH to check his
    • Enter some comps
    • Do some surveys
    • Declutter & flylady
    • Heating on as low as possible, fleecey dressing gowns on
    • Attend pre-paid pole class, works out at £5 a class with my membership rather than £8.50 payg
    • DH to list some items on fleabay
Hope you're all ok & have a great MSE day x

Hi, yes, am happy to post recipe & marmalade instructions. I'll sort that for you later, when I've got mine finished & into its jars. I've just got all the peel cooking at the moment, but promise to pop back afterwards.
