But anyone that buys a car brand new from the showroom, I don't think they'd buy it outright, they'd pay finance on it. Which is something I was more than capable of doing had I been accepted for finance.

That's not true. We could have bought our 2 (brand new, £30K+) cars upfront in cash with no borrowing at all. We did take a 0% deal on 50% of one of them just because we could carry on warming interest on the money by not paying it out up front.

I suspect most new car buyers take credit, but certainly not all do.

Agree many new car buyers take some credit.

But very few finance an entire vehicle on finance. The very vast majority put down a deposit in some form (cash or part ex another vehicle). And putting down a deposit reduces the risk of ending up in such a large % negative equity. Which then gives the borrower more options if their circumstances change.

  • Sorry but thats a bit of an unfair statement. When I say cars are my thing I mean I've always liked cars, I'm a sporty car kind of person. I've driven alot of cars over the years & unfortunately never had the best of luck with them, even cars dirt cheap, do you think I bought this as my first car?? Hence why I opted for a brand new car, which was covered under warranty from the dealer for the 100,000 mile. The part about showing off is a bit absurd. I'm not some under age hooligan who flees about the streets & does handbrake turns etc. I am actually respectable & courteous on the road, I don't drink or smoke or do drugs for that matter, I have a good job, so why shouldn't I have a nice car? I'm not saying I'm struggling for money in the least, I'm simply asking is there anyway I can put some money aside a month, what are my options. You have read this & just found it appropriate to isolate than be helpful.

    Blimey, calm down.

I was only making the point that cheap does not always equal unreliable and expensive and new doesn't always equal reliable.

Quite how you got to 'hooligan, handbrake turns, smoking or drugs' I don't know. I never cast any aspersions about your responsibility or courtesy. I didn't say anything about showing off, either, if you read my post again, and I take offence at your reading something into it that isn't there.

I was merely suggesting that you were categorising yourself as being a car 'enthusiast' (which would imply a level of mechanical awareness) whereas your posts suggested you're just a 'person who likes nice cars'. There's nothing wrong with that.
