Tax Relief on Fuel

Hi All,
I currently get paid £2400 per annum (taxed) car allowance and i'm currently receiving 16p per mile for my 1.8 petrol car. (My own car)
Am I entitled to any tax relief via HMRC? I read somewhere about claiming 45p per mile for the first 10k miles?
I do roughly 13-15k per annum mileage.
Thanks for your help in advance

You should always know where you read something useful, there's lots in here just read. The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
Complete P87 and submit to tax office, I have done it for the last 5 odd years and very easy. The first time they will send you a cheque and any subsequent years is by tax code adjustment.
The form talks you through, but at 16p a mile you will still get tax relief on the miles in excess of 10,000 as I think the HMRC was around 25p per mile.
For the first 10,000 miles you will get the tax relief on 29p (45p-16p) per mile i.e. 5.8p or 11.6p back depending on your tax bracket.
I hope this helps0 -

Is the 13-15k all business miles? If so I think you'd be better of with a company car!0
