Bankruptcy annulled!

Hi Guys 'n' Gals

Firstly this is my 1st post here & as you can gather from the subject line I have just got my bankruptcy annulled .. at great expense I might add! (I was originally bankrupted for £23000 in 1999 & todate I have paid out a total in excess of £40,000 just to be able to say the magic word "Annulment"! My case was a bit complicated, but boy-o-boy .. if only I had a 1lb jar of hindsight all those years ago, maybe I'd have a few more quid in my pocket!)

Anyway .. thats history .. so H-E-L-L-O everyone!! :)

The reason for me posting is this .. I now need a bank account. I have been having my frugal wages paid into my partners RBS account (she has a bad credit rating also, altho she was not made bankrupt). I now urgently need my very own bank account .. I feel this is important to me mentally .. if only to demonstrate that I do have a bank account & can be financially independant once again .. does this make sense?

(Long term we'd like to remortgage as we have about £250k in our house & we are very hard up!)

Can anyone suggest a suitable bank account (given my current "annullment" status) & warn me of any "pitfalls"?

I have just sent off my £2-00 postal order to Experian to see what nasty stuff they have on their computers about me (altho I doubt if I'll have the guts to open their reply!!)

This whole episode made me very ill .. dreadfull depression (was off sick for almost 18 months) .. but now I feel that I am getting my life back together again & want to be able to freely have access to my own money! Right now I have to ask my partner everytime I need some cash & really dont like it!

Sorry if this is a bit long for a 1st post .. hope that I dont sound like a whinger .. I am NOT .. honest!

Thanks

NOYN

Firstly, welcome to the forum & congratulations on the annulment. :)

You can find some info on bank accounts in the sticky at the top of the forum here. Your annulment puts you back credit-wise as if you'd never been bankrupt in the first place, but it will take time to filter through. I would therefore suggest one of the accounts listed as a good starting point until you have been able to check your credit record & get any amendments to it done that are necessary. :)

You can also find info here on the effect of having your bankruptcy annulled, how to sort out your records etc - you'll need to scroll down the page a bit, as you've dealt with the first part of the page already. :)

Would also suggest you check the other 2 credit agencies besides Experian. Not 100% but I don't think that any one agency hold the full record. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I think you're right, tigerfeet. I was told that if you want to check your credit files, you should always check all 3, as they all update them at different times, and some of the companies supplying the info to them only deal with one. I've certainly found differences between Equifax & Experian's records - they weren't major ones thankfully, but they could have been.
