50th birthday ideas

Options
My husband will be 50 in April, the day after we celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. I am totally having a blank on what to do to celebrate his birthday. He is not a big party person but saying that we will hold a small family party in a hall or at our house.

I would like to take him away or do something different with him and our 9 yr old children. Even if it is just one or two nights away but not sure where to go or what to do. (Would have to be in the UK) Have thought about a show and meal/ driving or flying experience. I have heard not so good reviews on the driving days as many have said you don't actually get much time behind the wheel.

We live in Hertfordshire and am looking at spending approx £150 - £300 pending what and where.

Any suggestions or what have others done for their 50th?

Thank you!:)

  • For my husbands 60th we had a small family party. Then I bought him 60 gifts. The main ones were a weekend away, a Trike Tour and a visit to the Enchanted Forest. Other things were a voucher for a cake which I made, a whistle for when he bends down and can't get back up, underpants because life would be pants without you etc. I used Groupon and got him a Lairds title and a canvas. I have got the list if you are interested.

Not particularly helpful to the OP as you were asking what to do for a party type thing, but I can show you what my DH did for my 50th last year.

As 'one of' my presents he bought me lots of products that are still around that I can remember from my childhood:

(He found the 'Marathon' wrapper online and wrapped a new Snickers bar in it :D)

He also bought me a Record Player that converts records and cassettes to MP3's:

I loved it as I'm very into nostalgia. :)
