Gymophobics versus normal gyms

Gymophobics looks the same as curves and energie fitness. I'm not sure about their policy when it comes to staff qualifications, curves used to employ staff with no qualifications in fitness, I believe they do their own in house training.
Energie ask staff to have a level 2 but my view is, unless they make you up a programme that uses free weights and body weight exercises that goes along with the 30 min circuit and review it regularly, you'll not get very much out of it. I worked for a branch of energie for a year and there were some very well qualified and motivated staff who worked there and some women lost a lot of weight but unless the gym has a dance studio and a good programme of classes as well, I'd say avoid.
Its the boredom factor that sets in and thats why people cancel.0 -
Why? Just interested. I know you lift free weights, I do as well. But I also use weights machines as part of a gym programme.
Because they only work muscles in one plane - no stabiliser or core muscles working. I really don't see the point of them and actually think they can be harmful, in that a) they force everyone, no matter what height, into their position, and b) they can give a false sense of security...I saw a chap at my old gym try and bench 80kg because "he could do it on the machine". *shudder* Thankfully he couldn't get it out of the rack.
I understand it's a personal vendetta of mine

Not just yours, I equally abhor them“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

When people are sat there seemingly doing nothing, they're actually taking active recovery. It's not all about pounding on a treadmill for hours upon end which, quite frankly, does very little for you
Chameleon: No he wasn't doing free weights when I saw him, however it was the gym instructor who told me he always did the same thing. I assume that being an instructor he would be well informed with regard to active recovery periods and also familiar with the regime of this person either through active instruction or observation. My point was you get out what you put in, and the point of the instructor in the example was that the guy wasn't putting in.0 -

Not much point in doing it then if you're not even doing enough work to break a sweat. Save your money and go for a brisk walk.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Well I joined gymophobics and really enjoying it, the convienience is great, I'm going 4/5 times a week at the mo, I do the circuit which includes 2/3 different floor exercises as well, the staff are really encouraging and check alls ok, I paid an annual fee which made it a bit cheaper
I'm just wondering whether to add the flabulos machines to my membership or join the town gym as it's only £11 a month, I know I couldn't use the town gym alone as I'd probably only go once or maybe twice a week but for £11 it might me worth it just to add a bit extra workout.
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0
