P800 Unpaid Income Tax Demand

Hi All,
Yesterday I received a dreaded P800 Unpaid Income Tax calculation for 2010/2011. This P800 states that I have underpaid for this period and that I now owe £3333.20
After contacting HMRC it appears that my former employers have continued to use an NT Tax code that was issued for 2008/2009 all the way upto 15/12/2010. The NT was issued in Nov 2008 as part of my previous Bancruptcy and should have been used until Apr 2009 when I should have been recoded back to the then 647L tax code.
HMRC did not send this recode notification and thus my employers continued with the NT code. They admit that when the error was noticed in Dec 2010 they sent a recode notice which was actioned immediately.
Ultimately I now find myself in the rather scary position of owing a fairly substantial sum to HMRC which the very kind advisor on the phone advised should have reisssued the recoding for Apr 2009 onward, she even wished me good luck at the end of the call.
I was just wondering what my next course of action should be and thought someone here might be able to help me.
All the best
