Amazon anonymous gift

A few days ago my daughter received a dvd via Amazon that she hadn't ordered.
It simply said it was a gift to (her name) from (her name). She was immediately concerned that her account had been hacked. It hadn't been used but she decided to remove all her payment details from the account as well as change her password.
Its not a dvd she would have bought for herself so unlikely that someone who knows her would have sent it.
She complained to Amazon and unsurprisingly got their standard response
"All of our customers have the opportunity to include a gift message.... however in this instance this option was not taken.
For privacy reasons we don't disclose the identity of the person, however we will send a message to the gift sender to pass along your appreciation and let the sender know you are unaware who purchased the gift. If the sender wishes he/she will contact you personally.
I appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.
I hope this helps......"
Anyone else experienced this?

Just seen this thread. This happened to me - I received 3 anonymous gifts a couple of yrs ago. There did seem to be a name of the sender but I didn't recognise it and I tried searching against the name without any luck - I think it may have been made up. Anyway I received a DVD (not one I wanted sadly) and two v cheap books!! It seemed really strange at the time but it has not happened since.0

Must be in contact with Amazon0

This happened to our young daugher a couple of months ago - I phoned and got the same response as you - that they would e mail and let the sender know we didn't know who they were as there was no name added at the gift stage.
Declined as explained wouldn't want the sender to be embarrassed that they had forgotten to add their name. Subtly phoned around friends and family to ask them if they had sent her something.
Have now asked our foreign family members to stop using Amazon as we have no option of returning item if duplicated and they seem to struggle finding the small gift box option to tick allowing them to add their name. It isn't that easy to find!0
