I will wait on getting an answer from the JCP then .... obviously that will never come! Or I will just ring up the office and ask explaining that UJM isn't allowing me access.0

You don't want to apply via the UJM site otherwise all that hard work you have done writing your cover letter will be wasted
jobs applied for via the site only give the option to send your cv (no cover letter).
Ring them them like you say and ask where they want your CV emailed to, you can then send your cover letter as well.0 -

That's a terrible practice. Those people who have never done that particular job have no chance as there is no chance to mention transferable skills / show potential. No wonder its not successful.
And don't get me started on the number of ads I have found that send me to an agency website to submit a CV!0 -

I know tell me about it! I tend to do what you are going to do and try to contact the company to get a direct email, I like to think that then puts me at an advantage as I have taken to the trouble to do so when the majority will just send a CV via the site.0 -
That cover letter is far far far far too long. It won't be read.0

I agree, you only need about 5 lines at most, remember they will have loads of people applying and also have your CV to read, they cover letter isd only to show you have made an effort and get them wanting to read your CV.0 -

Your cover letter is too long. That is constructive...
Your CV should show that you are able to do the job.
You CV should be one side.
Your cover letter should be a few lines explaining the few competencies/qualifications mentioned in the advert which you don't have but that you confident they won't hold you back.
You aren't special, you are one applicant out of many, if someone can't get the core details about you in <10 seconds then you will be binned.
Application + fluff = no job.
'I'm a team player'
'I have excellent organisational skills'
'My hobbies are...'
All fluff.0 -

I disagree. I wouldn't make it any longer though and it does need proof reading and some of the slightly odd turns of phrase tweaked a little. As another poster pointed out, some of the unnecessary wordiness should be reviewed too.
When I read job applications, I scan the cover letters first. They should give a very concise overview of why the applicant is suitable.0 -
I don't agree with Denning. I've had interviews offered from the sort of letter the OP has written with a one page CV attached. Go for it and good luck.0
