Finding part time work

Flyonthewall wrote: »Hi.
Although I am still looking at full time work, I'd like to find more part time jobs. The main job sites I use don't seem to have many part time jobs listings though. At most 10% of the jobs listed are part time (it's far less on some sites - not even 5%).
So what sites/companies are good for finding part time jobs (temporary or permanent)?
Thanks.
Those you know about that have that filter, otherwise, they're all as bad as each other!0 -
I am looking for part time work there is not much about, I don't know why
I am now applying for full time jobs and will ask at interview if they will accept me part time. 0 -
Indeed works great for me. Just put part time in the job role box, and then your location in the location box, filter by clicking the job area (such as sales, admin etc) on the left hand side; searches the major boards in one swoop.0

Oh right. I find it a bit odd that there seems to be so few part time jobs listed and yet I often see posts from people on these boards who are working part time, which suggests to me that companies look for part time staff as much as full time.DomRavioli wrote: »Indeed works great for me. I do use Indeed, but a lot of jobs are repeated or they go to various sites that all expect you to sign up to them and that really annoys me lol.0 -

99% of the jobs on indeed are either Monster (you can sign in with Facebook), Totaljobs, universal job match, or directly through the employer. If you want a job, and do bear in mind there are, in my area, over 400 people applying for each part time vacancy as they are so in demand, you can't behave like that.
If I knew you were going to waste my time, I wouldn't have bothered posting.0 -
Sometimes I use a site called peopleperhour (I'm not affiliated with them in any way). They do not offer "work" but they are a freelancer website where you can create a profile and either post "hourlies" or bid for work offered. If you can define specific skill sets you can offer then you might be able to create an hourlie listing where you can tell potential customers what you offer.
A lot of these freelance websites are a race to the bottom in terms of rate, there are a lot of freelancers from countries with a much lower living standard than western europe hence charge less. Even so, in my case for example I charge £15 per hour, I took the time to research my market, what the competition was offering and what I could offer that they couldn't and I got no shortage of work at the rate I wanted. There were also a lot of tyre kickers who wanted something doing for nothing, some general time wasters, but over time you can figure out the difference between genuine potential work and the time wasters. Only real issue is the commission the website takes can be quite high eg on one contract I got £50 for I received only £41 in my bank account, I guess that is the cost of exposure. Your success on a freelancer website like this will depend on your attitude and research that you put in. Like I said it is not "work" but it still ends up with money in your bank account so if you can define your skills worth a shot.
For actual work with part time hours look directly at public sector job websites, eg council, universities. Some of those near me keep "bank" staff on a casual basis and this includes part time working arrangements.0 -

Well for my area it comes up with far more sites. Haven't seen a single one from total jobs or monster though.
I can't behave like what?
In what way have I wasted your time? I said before that I've used Indeed (so I know how to use it). You said the site works great for you, all I did was say why I didn't feel it worked great for me.0 -

Thanks. I have looked at freelance sites before, but finding tasks I could do and then actually get them and the amount I'd probably get from it doesn't really seem the effort.
I just found one site which appears aimed at uni students but either way it's more temp jobs than part time. However, the job I found is for just one day, only 2 hours and doesn't sound like you'll actually do much apart from walk around a lot with someone and maybe hand a leaflet to a few people. Seems the most pointless job because you're just really keeping someone company for 2 hours. Can't get more temporary than that though lol.0 -
Hi,
One website I know that focuses on part time jobs is Timewise jobs. co . uk (reduce the spaces) It was initially aimed at mum's returning to work and doesn't have loads of jobs but does have some interesting ones.
I know on the Guardian jobs site you can also just look at part time jobs, there is an option to filter your search down the left hand side. Sorry I can't post links yet

Thanks! That's exactly the type of site I was looking for. Sadly it only comes up with one job and it's to do with speaking French and Spanish which I can't do but I'll be sure to keep checking it.
I used to look on the Guardian website but I gave up as in 2+ years I never found a single job. There were only ever a few listed in my area and they were all very unsuitable and certainly never admin based
