Good luck! Sounds kinda promising
With regards to SC and going it alone, I'm seeing more and more from people looking into this recently saying that their providers have been less than helpful
I don't know if I'e just been lucky with who my creditors are as all but Barclaycard have frozen interest and even then they have reduced it to 0.561% which I'm challenging anyway
Going it alone gives you the opportunity to start a new thread as well
that'll keep you entertained for a while at least!

As to getting another job - if there isn't much on the horizon at the moment have a think about volunteering. It keeps your hand in and looks good on the CV (ie not stuck in front of the telly watching JK) and it can also open doors into employment. Plus it gets you out and about and will help combat the depression side of things. Most organisations will pay your travel costs too so you won't be out of pocket.DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

That's definitely something to think about
Right now I'm taking the opportunity to cook more and sort boxes out that have been standing there for a year now.Walking the dogs more too, and doing exercise
But once the house is sorted I will definitely look into volunteering-it's just finding something where I'm not going to be on my feet all the time, and that fits in with my youngest. He goes to school in September which will make it easier I hope to find a job as I'll be available every day, not just random times in the week.
I feel quite chuffed now I've sorted it all out myself-ooh that reminds me I must let SC know-is it best to do that now or wait till they've sent this month's payment across?I know that's on the 25th.Debts Jan 2014 £20,108.34

That all sounds good.
You may be able to bring the debt-free date forward by saving extra on the side and then making full & final settlement offers. This is easier to do yourself than through a debt management company.
Doing a VT on the car HP agreement sounds like a good move too. If you need a cheap banger (maybe paid out of your 'save on the side' pot) try picking the brains on the motoring board.
I'd let SC know what you're doing as soon as you are certain about it, and it sounds like you are.
If you are volunteering, how about the CAB? It sounds like you've got a lot to offer, and you might pick up some useful info too!0 -
I will need a cheap banger as the primary school is an hour's walk away at the speed my youngest walks and also with playschool being 9-12 on 2 days it wouldn't leave much time to do anything else except walk there and back. There's no direct buses either so not really doable and probably cheaper to get a cheap car.
I'm about to message SC now-any idea what will happen with the payment for this month?Debts Jan 2014 £20,108.34

Public transport is so awkward when you're not on the main commuter routes isn't? I'm lucky enough that although I live in a small village, it's between two commuter towns, so they deign to pass through twice an hour at peak times, and once off peak. Otherwise I don't know what I'd do!Save0

I wouldn't mind taking the bus if only it was a direct route that didn't involve 10 mins walking either end and a change in the middle.I find the bus services here really outdated-in Warsaw in Poland (family from there) the buses have announcements to tell you which bus stop is next, a bus route in the actual bus with each stop named(like the tube in London) and a light up board announcing the next stop too.Tickets are bought in advance and put in a little machine in the bus which stamps them, so it's all much quicker as everyone gets on and then does the ticket after and it's also much much cheaper so a lot of people take the bus.I think the UK could learn something from other countries when it comes to public transport.Debts Jan 2014 £20,108.34
