This is a bit of a plug for a company i have found. They are called Just Coffee and they sell all fair trade coffees they roast them and then post them so when i order i am getting the coffee the day after it is roasted. It is unbeilevabley good. It comes in at £15 a kilo (which is the best size to order as they give free postage on kilos) it keeps great in the freezer. they will roast and or grind it how you want it and will sell as beans to. I love it and what is nice is its fair trade and a much better product than i can get in the supermarkets (some fair trade coffees being ethical but not great coffee) Hope this is helpful to someone,:A :j

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I was told by a coffee drinker that fairtrade coffee quality is not consistent. Is this true?I know nothing0

I've never had a problem with the quality of Fairtrade coffee. I normally buy the Union Hand Roasted stuff from Sainsburys - it's normally about the same price as Sainsburys own brand and a few times was actually cheaper! It's consistently good quality and you're doing your bit.
BJR - can you PM me the link to Just Coffee? I've looked and can only fing an American site that seems to only post to USA.Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

Fair Trade coffee is a complete rip off. It is ridiculously priced, and al the ones I've tasted in the past are like ground acorns. I prefer to buy decent quality goods on the free market, thanks.
Incidentally, has anyone tried Fairtrade wines? They cost £7-8 and taste like £2.99 rubbish. Some of the worst I've ever tasted.0 -
As far as I am aware there are no enforceable regulations about 'fair trade'.
Obviously many of us would like to see poor and exploited Third World farm workers getting some benefit if we paid more for our products.
When this scheme was first muted I understood that it was intended that we pay a small premium extra - 10-20% perhaps; now it seem 200%-300% or more is not unusual.
However, am I being cynical to think that any extra we pay will simply be creamed off by 'middlemen'?0 -
I would happily buy fair traded coffee at a premium price if it didn't taste so consistently awful. My signature has been removed by the authorities. If you have been affected by the issues raised in this signature, please contact the Action Line on 1-800-THEY-NICKED-MY-SIG.0
