Wise words indeed. It is a shame the wisdom of his years has not been taken up by his colleagues on this forum.
Do you think I though he was spouting even more rubbish than usual.0 -

whilst I suppose one shouldn't, one is a little surprised that the youth of today actually pay to read this rubbish.
However he is a true boomer ripping off these foolish people.0 -

I agree; he is an excellent bloke and makes a very good living out the gullible young0 -
I'm not sure what her problem is.
She will just marry some older bloke with a few quid. Problem solvedWe love Sarah O Grady0 -

The author of this biased piece of journalism has an impressive track record....Francis Beckett is an author, journalist, broadcaster and contemporary historian. He is the author of What Did the Baby Boomers Ever Do for Us? Earlier books include history of the 1884-5 miners's strike, written with the Guardian's Westminster correspondent David Hencke, biographies of four prime ministers: Attlee, Macmillan, Blair and Brown, and a book about education, The Great City Academy Fraud.
Before going freelance he worked as a trade union editor and a Labour party press officer and was president of the National Union of Journalists, an organiser for the housing charity Shelter and head of press and publications at the National Union of Students
Shelter!
Should have known.
His father was apparently a Labour MP, but later became a fascist writing propaganda for Oswald Mosely. So he probably had a pretty weird upbringing.
Certainly tells us where you are coming from, Rugged.0 -

If younger people are grizzling that the older generation get listened to more because they are the ones that vote, then they know what to do, don't they?
Every generation has to re-invent the wheel, why should the present generation be any different?

No they aren't. Read the article as a whole and it is almost all rubbish which makes it hard to work out salient points. For example...
A majority of Britons has been literate since 1800.
People in the UK do not experience starvation as we have a more than adequate welfare state.
The only group demonizing hoodies is the Daily Mail and its readers, who may or may not be boomers.
Stopping under age teens drinking in pubs is surely a good thing.
Most boomers also wore uniform and boomer girls will well remember the ignominy of gym knickers in particular.
Not wise words at all, just complete and utter b@llocksPlease stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

"Wisdom of his years"? Surely you jest sir? Are you sure you don't mean Francis Beckett wins a nomination for twonk of the year?
Examples;...We are the first generation in which pretty well everyone can read and write fairly fluently...
Complete and utter bollox. Five minutes spent here on MSE would reveal numerous examples of people who are totally incapable of constructing anything even approaching an untelligible sentence....I say it can afford both – but only if young and old alike learn to care for each other....
Why does this conjur up the image in my mind of Jack Nicolson asking "why can't we all just get along" just before the Martians zap him?
Vacuous nonsense of the worse kind.0
