    Hi there, another October 2015 bride here! We've booked our venue today, paid the deposit and secured the registrar, so we're set for the 29th.
    Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £
    LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000
    Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 2017
  • £450 is about standard for a church of England church

    Also with regards to witnesses - have whoever you like! There is no set protocol about it (I'm having my Matron of Honour's husband, because I love him and want him to be involved in some way, The Boss is going to have one of his oldest friends because as a girl, she can't really be an usher)

    As for planning - I'm no help... I should really be WAY more organised than I am now.
    Officially saved enough to cover the cost of our wedding! :A
  • So, Our plans seems to be coming together. However….I’m now being told from various people that I’m arranging & organising too early.

    My main concern, Is booking / putting deposits down on the popular things.

    Church
    Reception venue
    Dj
    Photographer (If we need one)

    When did / have you lot planned to secure your chosen venues / suppliers?
    Future goals:
    Become debt free.
    Beat Depression.
    Be happy & healthy

    I do think this has changeable fees depending on locality though as my church (August 2014) is £535... I recall seeing someone else on here saying their church had confirmed fees at £750... Worth asking the question?!

    PRINCESSX87 we confirmed our church and reception venue at 14 months to go (when we decided to get married, he proposed 3 months later) but confirmed our DJ with 8 months to go and photographer with 7 months to go... I would still do it early as possible if I had my time again though x

  • My hubby (it's still so weird to write that!) had a very non traditional wedding abroad over Christmas, just the two of us, but it was amazing. We're having our reception here next month, so here are a few tips from me for what they're worth:

    - Venue - as we're doing it out of season in March, it was way cheaper than usual. Hopefully you can take advantage of that too and use as a bargaining tool with your venue. We looked at some fabulous pubs that would do a 3 course meal and wine for £30 a head, which I thought was great value for money. Many of them didn't charge a venue hire fee and were willing to do whatever we wanted (create a signature cocktail, close the pub for the day so we had exclusive hire, heavily discounted accommodation etc).

    - Rings - we got ours from Hatton Garden in London and went round quite a few shops getting different quotes, we managed to haggle on price too.

    - Invitations - we made our own using gold card from a stationers and hubby printed out the inserts at school (he's a teacher). Punched a hole in the corner and threaded ribbon through to hold everything in place.

    - Shoes - I got the most amazing, brand -new wedding shoes from a website called Preloved for only £20 (they would have been over £130 brand new).

    - Decorations -we are just having simple tea lights on the tables and white fairy lights wrapped around the beams in the venue.

    - Cake - getting SIL to make as she's a brilliant baker, it also gives her a role in the wedding too.

    Music - getting a friend to DJ for us but if your venue is set up, just make a load of itunes playlist and play off an iPod. Better still, why not guests to suggest some songs on their RSVP cards.

    Good luck :)
  • A girl can't be an usher? I was a best man haha!

  • Hi ladies

    I am getting married on 3rd Oct 2015 too. Im from Bolton but marrying in Preston.
    Dfinately get your budget set first, but do your research first for example go on to wedding ideas site and download their free wedding planning spread sheet. It lists evetything you will need to get and then put an allocated amount next to it, then it will total everything up and give you a budget (or thereabout). Then get the venue booked and haggle! We got £500 knocked off just for asking what they could do with the bottom line figure. Then get the big bigs secured, like videography, photographer, venue dresser hair & make up. Small deposits but its bits like that that will get booked up.
    Take advantage of having an out of season wedding. Iv already had great savings. ALWAYS ask if that is their best price as i can assure you they can better it, call their bluff and let them stew a bit.

    IM GETTING MARRIED...WOOHOO!!
