Step counter for someone on crutches

This is not a joke. I had polio as a child and because of this I walk on crutches and because of this I am wondering if there is a step counter that you can wear on your arm that would count your steps. I've been told I need to increase my activity and lose weight and thought that this would be a motivator if it would work.
I've tried free ones on my legs in the past but these didn't work because I don't actually walk but sort of step jump.
I hope this rambling makes sense to someone.
Thanks
