Mortgage on house next to chip shop

Hi, does anyone have any advice on buying a house next to chip shop? My husband and I love a Victorian semi which is semi 'd onto a chip shop. It closes early etc but we have heard that it may be difficult to get a mortgage and more importantly to sell it in future (we have large deposit) and that it could really devalue house if the housing bubble bursts again. Does anyone have any advice?

I think it might be harder if it's a flat OVER a takeaway, but I don't think being next to anything would affect a mortgage decision unless the surveyor thought that, all things considered, it was too expensive.
More importantly, would it affect you? Where are the exhausts for the fryers, could the air be blown easily? Think about a hot sunny day when all your windows open and you are relaxing, smelling chips (or suffering the noise). Also it might close early at present, but it might not be too difficult for them to get the times altered.0 -
Being 'next to a food outlet' can readily lead to a surveyor rejection (all depends on the lender's policy/guidelines).
If you are using a broker they may be able to obtain you a pre-application indication of acceptability. You may also be able to so similar but be careful about 'dolly says it'll be OK answers'.
This sort of rejection tends to happen well down the line when time and money has been expended.
As to future value - be very careful - if its not 'a seriously good deal' walk.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Sounds like heaven to me! Proximity to our local chippy is a prime factor in our choice of housing.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)
Savings target June 18 - £22,281.99 / £25,0000 -
Just hope it's a decent chippy and the smell isn't too bad.
Oh and because it's a chippy today doesn't mean it will be in a years time, and that the opening hours won't change.
when I was 4 years old my mum and dad bought a chippy and we lived in the attached house. I still remember the smell and the fact for most days I had left overs from the tea time fry. We didn't have chippy tea for about 10 years after moving out.
No wonder I have weight issues now.0 -
i always thought it was great when i went to my mates house, he lived in a terraced house and the house next door, an end terraced house, was a chippy, dead easy to get food ha ha. BUT it stinks, all the fat smell felt like it was oozing through the brickwork into the house lol, he was used to it, but as soon as i was in his house i could smell it. Id never get a place next door to a take away1

I think you'll find it extremely hard to get a mortgage, and even harder to sell further down the line.
I think this business class can be transferred to other fast food outlets. So it may be one question about a chippy - what about a chinese or kebab shop? I would find the smell of the latter worseSo many glitches, so little time...0
