how do you keep a record of jobs applied for?

if you are so organised I doubt a system will be needed, as you should find a job very quickly I would have thought.0

Organised regarding job searching yes I am as I was in the workplace, organised in other areas in my life no unfortunately certainly not
My problem is I have been out of the working environment for nearly 6 years (I have not been job searching or claiming JSA all that time). This clearly shows as other posters have the same kind of system as mine only they are storing theirs electronically, I am still printing mine  I need to find a voluntary job in an office, however I have had a very bad experience of this on a placement I was sent to via the job centre and must admit that has put me off.0 -

I think you will find, most people on here were giving you suggestions, I doubt many do more than keep a note of the job.
If you are on the direct gov site, then you should be filing everything on there anyway, there is a "save" feature and also a "comments" feature, I use that, so if my adviser wishes to see my job hunting activity then is all there in one place.
I have also set up a seperate email account, so any emails are in one place, you could also send yourself copies of applictions to your own email account.
I think it's great you are so arganised but feel most of it, is probably a waste of time, that time could be better spent looking for job to apply for.
sorry that has come across as harsh, it wasn't meant to, but just trying to save you unneeded stress and work.0 -

no not harsh at all
you might be right, another reason why I was asking what others do. Like you say on some sites I think you do get the option to email the job to yourself that would save time/money. 0 -
Tip you can still majority of times relook at job descriptions or original ads by using search engine cache I found most of the time it lingers - once had an invite to interview many weeks later when I had written it off and I just googled the job title and company and found the old job ad to go by :j
Only took job description once to interview - and soon scrapped it when employers didn't want to look at record of achievement anymore as really found it doesn't make anyone look any better or worse organised. Only hardcopy paper I kept were the you've been unsuccessful letters received in the post - everything else kept on email till I felt it was safest to delete - had files on the email account more then anything in neat order and everything that happened got recorded on UJM in activity with never any bother to be honest
Most of the CV sites out there provide email confirmation of what has been sent
..I did think about spread sheets but thought as long as I can remember and prove it which you don't beyond rejection or interview stage then that is all that matters

I do all I have said here to store jobs on my laptop and on a hard copy. I can locate any job I have applied for in the time I have been out of work very easily.iammumtoone wrote: »no not harsh at all
