Wrong Tax Code?

I work for a pharmacy. I have worked there for 6 years but I think I am on the wrong tax code. I have asked 3 of my work colleagues what tax code they are on and its 944L, my tax code is 929L. 2 years ago I phone inand rev and they said my tax code is correct because I get a bonus through work. The only bonus I get is a Christmas bonus of a couple of hundred pounds.....but all the workers at the pharmacy get the same bonus. Can anyone shed any light onto this for me please. The 3 colleagues are all in the same category as me: single, aged under 60 and no children. Thank you

Is the bonus being added to your gross pay?
  • Yes the bonus is added to my gross pay. Would you then say my code 929L is correct? Thank you

If the bonus is added to your gross pay then it should not affect your tax code. If it is this that is reducing your tax code then you are paying tax twice on your bonus. I would say check with tax office again and stress that the bonus is being added to your gross pay and as such is being taxed without any adjustment to tax code.
  • I will definitely phone them because I got my Christmas bonus but tax was deducted from it so like you say, I am paying tax twice. I would be better off not having the bonus and be put on a normal tax code. Thank you for your reolies

It's only a difference of £30 tax but you can ask for HMRC to recalculate the last 3 years.
  • I phoned the Tax office and I am on the wrong code. I have now been put on code 950L because I should have been getting an extra £60 per year to was my uniform. Apparently a cheque is in the post. Thank you all for your help xx
