I wish I did better at school

I got average A level results, did not go to russell group university which if you don't you will find it hard to get a good job and now I feel my life is going nowhere.

Wok for yourself. Nobody cares what uni you went to. (Or even if you went to one at all).

I used to think like that but then I realised that my life would have changed completely and im happy with the one ive had so far regardless of its ups and downs.
If id gone to uni 30 years ago I wouldn't have met my ex wife and had my Daughter or I wouldn't have been where I am today with my second wife....do you know what I mean?

Kind of nonsense, sorry. Good grades and a strong uni give you a slight advantage, but it isn't really a massive advantage. If you are as good as those who got good grades and went to a strong uni you just have to work a bit harder to prove it.

    What's the question?
  • The smartest people around are the ones that didn't waste time at university.
  • Nonsense. I failed two of my three A-levels, studied at the OU for a few years before getting an English degree from Stirling University (which ranks around no.50, is neither a Russell or 1994 group.) I currently work for English Heritage (which is Civil Service) and taking a second degree in Ancient History and Archaeology at Leicester (which is a 1994.) The only thing that is holding you back is yourself.

Same here. I chose not to go to university despite good grades and a confirmed place. My life has brought me to where I am today, and I couldn't be happier.

    No regrets.

    What's 'Russell Group'?

Did you stop learning when you left school? Did you lose the ability to learn when you left school?

No, you can, if you put your mind to it, still learn stuff whenever you want. Use your local library, bookshop, the Internet. Look for evening classes run by your local schools. Ask people about stuff.

No employer cares what you didn't do, focus on the positives!
