New rule on holidays from my employer, is this legal?

My employer has introduced a new rule regarding my holidays, basically if I want to take one day off, I'm not allowed to do so, I have to take the whole week, eg if I want a Saturday off, I have to take the whole week off as well.

To me this sounds ridiculous, however before I confront my employer about this, I would like to know where I stand and whether this is actually legal.

Yes it is legal. Your employer can tell you WHEN to take your holidays if they want to. The only requirement is that you get the minimum allowance as set by employment law.

I would try and reason with your employer, I'm sure everyone else who works there will feel the same.

That's a stupid policy, even if it is legal.

    Agree

Think they'll see a spike in their sick absence rate... Who is going to take a week off to go to their kid's nativity play or go to the dentist's?

Yes legal. They could say a week in spring, two in summer and one in winter if they wanted or anything else that they cared to say. A week at a time, two weeks at a time all sorts.

As long as you can take all your entitlement then they are doing nothing wring but as stated here by another poster sickness levels will rise as no one is going to book a week off to go to the dentist or doctors, or a few days away on a mini break etc.

Id look for another job if I was you and get them to then pay for the accrued holiday pay when you leave :)
