how do they differ from actual face to face interviews, other than you dont have to wear your best shoes etc ?
ive never done telephone interviews before and ive got two lined up this coming week
im usually useless at face to face interviews and usually useless at talking on the phone but i think a telephone interview would be easier ?

Use them a lot when recruiting.
What we/you are trying to establish if there is a fit.
We would use this to shortlist those we bring in.
Most people like them as it save time and money and time off for those in work.
Have a list of question that will help you decide if you are interested.
research the company, website, finances etc.
specific Job probe the description to get an idea what the real job is.
Be prepared to answer questions about your CV, both on and missing.0 -
i was invited for a face to face interview with the area manager but i would be unable to attend the dates as i have to work, im also trying to get a transfer within my own company to a different town and i think it would not look good if i were showing interest in other companies as well
i did inform the manager i spoke to on the phone that i was unable to attend on the wednesday or friday but would be in that particular town on the saturday0 -
I have had one that lead to a real interview.
It was like an HR face to face interview.
We arranged a time to talk, they called me.
I was ready with a glass of water, a copy of the job advert open on my laptop, along with a copy of my CV, possible questions they could ask me and what I would say to them and questions I wanted to ask her.
It lasted about 25 minutes and the last question was 'is there any reason why I shouldn't take you to the next stage' to which I said there was no reason why I should not get to the next stage and then told her all the reasons why I should get a face to face interview.

I have been on both sides, and the advice AP007 gives is really good.
Often they are just to narrow candidates down and timesave when someone could not be right for the role - like hours, location, experience etc.
Follow AP007 's advice and good luck!
