Hi,
I bought an electric blanket for my daughter who can't regulate her temperature, in the hope she'll sleep better. I'm wanting it on throughout the night, not just to pre- heat the bed.
I can't see you sleeping directly on top of it becaue the wires would be really uncomfortable, but I'm not sure where to put it?
Last night I put it on the mattress with a thin matress protector and bed sheet over the top, but the heat was negligable.....
Can anyone tell me what they do:o

Usually you would use a blankets or sheets both under and over the electric blanket for the most comfortable heat. How well it works depends on the quality of the blanket, what settings it goes up to and how thick the covering is that you have put over it.
A mattress protector may be too thick to allow the warmth through, just put under a sheet and see how she gets on with it.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
We use it under the sheet, and you don't notice the wire etc when sleeping. Give it a go and see how it goes.
Don't forget to get it fire tested yearly, most local fire stations have testing sessions. Better safe then sorry xWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. Thanks for your advice, it's a silent night, so should be fairly good quality. I'll give it a go under a fleecy sheet.0

Please don't think this a 'rude question' - but have you made certain that it IS the kind that you can leave on all night? Some of them are only for pre-heating the bed ...............0 -
I didn't realise it was safe to put anything on top of them. I always put mine on top of the duvet, and it's fine - lovely and warm all night :-)0

Mine goes over the mattress but under the protector and an old thin blanket. Warmth is just right. Put it on half an hour or so before going to bed, mmm perfect - nothing better than getting into nice warm bed.0

I do this too and have done so for years. I don't usually keep mine on overnight but have done so once or twice when feeling poorly.
I set my blanked to Heat 3 (highest) for about 45 minutes before I go to bed. This heats the bed (and my PJs!) to a lovely cosy temperature. On the occasions I have left it on overnight I turn the control down to Setting 2 (on my current blanket) but could go down to Setting 1 (on my previous blanket).0 -
There are 2 types that I've seen on sale, under- and over- blankets. We have an under-type and have an thin matress protector below and normal sheet over it. Usually have it on to pre-heat and then switch off when we get into bed. Really cold nights we might have it on the lowest setting but I generally find I overheat if it gets left on. Ours is definitely an on-all-night model but they say only on the lowest couple of settings overnight (morphy richards I think)0

Mine goes straight on matress, with a matress protector on top, and then a sheet. There are three heat settings and on 'number 1' I barely notice it.
I do notice the wires sometimes, but they aren't bad enough for me to get rid of the blanket and bare the cold lol xThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
Yeah was gonna say, there are two types - one for under you and one that goes on top of you. I used to have an on-top type and loved itOn the up
