Career Development Loan Help

Hi,
I signed up, stupidly i might add, to a course with a company called IT Skills Group. I was always wary but the sales guy caught me in worrying time when I was about to be made redundant.
The course is £4000 and I have paid already £800 of it.
Now this morning i received a letter from somebody stating that the training material I have been receiving from IT Skills is un licesnsed pirate copies of the software. It also goes onto state that IT Skills group are making false statements such as being Microsoft Certified Trainign partner and a number of other things!
I dont know the validity of this letter, however my friend who is also doing the course got the same letter this morning!
Is there anything I can do? I would jumpa t any oppurtunity to get out of this and not pay the remaining cash as I hate the way they do the course, nbodoy ever contacts me from the company and I could do without having to pay it!

The problem you have that in cases like this is that the course and the loan are totally seperate.
You have borrowed from say company xyz to pay for a course.
Company xyz will have paid the skills company on your behalf.
If you decide to quit the course you still have to pay the loan back.
In this case if what has been mentioned in the letter is true then they have acted illegally and you should take legal advice to see how you can proceed.
I would be asking the skills company for my money back. However for now you have to continue the repayments.
It is the skills company who seem to have defrauded you not the loan company.0 -
I have tried contacting the company a number of times, although I have got through there ahs never been anyone to take my call apart from recception and I have asked for a call back but they havent done so yet!
I will be asking for my money back although I dont feel I will get it! Ive contacted FAST about what I was told. it seems awfully strange that this letter got sent out, and even if it was a disgruntled employee there usually is some truth behind what they are saying!
Can I even pick the company up on data protection breach due to my details being leaked to somone?0 -
Ok first thing is if you only have paid 800??? Is the rest of loan with you?? If so you can contact career development loan and explain the situation. In mean time you can fight to get the 800 back from the course providers or worse case scenario you will end up paying the 800 back, the interest will start when you start paying, so either save up 800 and give the rest of money back to CDL and explain the situation, I found them to be very understanding and helpful.
Good luck0 -

Sorry if I appear rude but did you read your posting before pressing the submit button?
To me it makes no sense.0 -

Sorry basically career development loan they will do either- pay the course provider so far OP said he paid 800 for the course
- or pay the 8000 in full to the OP
I hope that is better!!0 -
I don't think that is the case.
IMO you enrol on the course but take out a loan to pay for it. The loan and the course are two different things.
The loan company has given IT skills the whole amount and the OP has a loan owing the whole amount (less £800 paid back so far).
So it is the IT skills people who have defrauded the OP not the loan company. The loan has still to be repaid and unless IT skills refund the OP the amount of the loan this will still have to be repaid by him.0 -
You are right but it is still worth asking career development loan, they are government loan and I found them very understanding. They might able to freeze the interest or work out something, it is just worth a try, they might say it is your fault you made bad choice or might be able to help.0
