working out pro-rata tax due in bankruptcy

Hi,
My bankruptcy date was March and I carried on s/e.
My tax due up until March is obviously included in the bankruptcy, but I need to find out how to work out tax due from March to April 5th in order to pay it.
I can't seem to get a reply from HMRC (helpful as always) but know that if I don't pay something then they won't be slow at fining me. I have submitted my tax return (paper copy) to them from 12/13.
I have no idea how to work out what I owe, (logic would say a percentage of everything that came in, less allowable costs) whether I take any of my personal allowance in to account, (1/12th for the month due).
I do not have any funds for an accountant.
Anyone been in this situation who has a bit of experience to pass on?
thank you:(

I believe that it's the case that the tax due on your SE income in the year of bankruptcy is a provable bankruptcy debt. So nothing gets apportioned. HMRC should send you details of a new UTR for your post bankruptcy trade i.e from 6 April 2013 onwards.
  • Ah okay, I did wonder this. Thank you. I never fail to be amazed at how little info HMRC seem to have to hand.
Would you have an idea of when the new UTR details should be received? I guess I don't need them until I do my next tax return, but wonder if they should have been sent.
HMRC were the people who petitioned for my bankruptcy so, as you can imagine, I'm pretty keen never end up on the wrong side of them again.
