Hoilday due and changing hours.

Hiya guys,
On M/L atm and last year (or this year really but I won't be back for the hoilday year) they said I couldn't take my hoildays before I left but they would be rolled over.
When I go back around end August I will be owed 6 weeks hoilday for April 13- End mar 14. Plus without working it out properly another 2 weeks up till August so about 8 weeks.
I am thinking of cutting down my hours from 24 to 8 when I go back would I still be entitled to my orignal hoilday? It seems abit mad because if I'm owed 8 weeks at 24 hours that would actually be 24 weeks at 8hours + the other 4 weeks Im due for rest of year so 28 weeks...
But if they only give me the hoildays by weeks that I'm due then Ive basicly lost out as they wouldnt let me take them last year?
Edit: Incase it matters I would be reducing 3 8hour shifts to 1 8hour shift.

People don't know what they want until you show them.

recommended practice(for both employer and employee) is to use the holiday at the end of the maternity period before returning.
One option many use if taking extended(non paid) maternity is to use holiday for part of that period.
The advantage of this is you don't end up with loads of holiday(upto double) and there is no confusion over what the holiday pay should be.
depending on the maternity timings and the holiday year keeping some of the holiday back should be an option.
The holiday should be based on the rate it was accrued at not the new rate, so if they don't let you take most of it at the end of maternity you will have a lot of weeks due.0 -
Thanks for that, we have a new personal manager that I havn't met yet so I am hoping she will be more reasonable and allow me to take it on return.People don't know what they want until you show them.0

I was asked the very same theoretical question by one of my colleagues earlier today: it would get very complicated if you 'kept' weeks of f/t holiday to take after you'd returned to working p/t, so we'd encourage you to use your holiday up before returning. One way of doing that, if you don't want to extend the period you're not actually at work, would be to say "I'd like to return on 28th August, would it be possible for me to work 3 days per week for the first two months, and take the other 2 days pw as annual leave?"
Meanwhile you can work out what to put in your flexible working request, remember you need to say how your job will get covered if you're not there all the time, rather than just saying "I want to go p/t please."Signature removed for peace of mind0
