Yes, me too, had it for years, and would thoroughly recommend it.0 -
Thank you for all the responses, I like the idea of a press to ensure the meat is tightly compacted to ensure an even burger,.
Ive had a google and have come across a few different types but not sure which to buy.
Whilst browsing the web I came across a thread on another site (can't find it now) where some one watches a butcher in their local supermarket make perfectly shaped burgers by hand, which when asked what he is using to shape the burgers, the butcher replies, give me $20 and I will tell you, :rotfl:, turns out it was a lid from a jar lined with cling film, so may give this a whirl first.

Never used one myself when I used to make burgers. What are they for? Getting the meat more compact so the burger doesn't fall apart or to make sure they are all the same size, or another reason completely?
My recipe used to be
Beef mine
Onion
garlic
Oxo cube
salt pepper
ketchup
mustard
breadcrumbs

Almost exactly the same as I make mine. I grate the onion (to hide it from kids) and don't add mustard but will try that next time. I also put ketchup, oxo and egg in mine, yum!
I don't use a burger press and can't imagine I ever would! I like big fat rustic burgers that look hand crafted0 -

IMO, yet another potential exhibit for the kitchen cupboard gadget museum.
My tip for squeezing the mince for a burger is to imagine that it's someone who you don't like.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

I use this one, mainly for when we have our big anniversary BBQ. I tend to start making them a few weeks earlier in batches and find using a press means they stack neater in the freezer.
It comes completely apart for cleaning, despite what some of the reviews say.
As for recipe, mince, onion (white finely chopped, red chunky), bread crumbs, oxo cube, herbs to taste (ie make it up as I go along), egg, Worcestershire sauce and will do a couple of batches with fresh chilly.
Experiment with what you like, there is no correct recipe :cool:0 -
Oh no... Mine went in the bin... The meat got into parts I couldn't get to to wash! Yuk!

I've never used a press, but might consider one if my hands weren't up to the job. I only put minced beef, oats, salt, pepper and a very small dash of sweet chilli sauce in ours.I just make sure I give the mixture a really good squishing when mixing through as it helps the meat fibres bind together, Then I shape & press with my hands and then leave in the fridge until they are ready to cook.0
