Hi
I am having problems traveling to work, i work about 17 miles away and live in a rural area with a limited bus service.
The care company i work for have recently changed my workplace and start and finish time's to 8am and finish at 930pm, i have expressed my concerns that i am unable to start and finish at these times due to travel issues and stated that it will cost me at least £40 a day in taxi's, now over 3/4 shifts a week this is getting very expensive averaging around £120 a week just to get to work. Now i know it's my responsibility to get to work, but i fell they are deliberately been difficult by changing my workplace knowing my situation .
I have requested a transfer to another service, but senior management say this is not possible as that place is fully staffed, i have even offered to step down to support worker, but with no joy.
I am now currently on the sick due to the stress of it all which has trigger my migraines.
I just wounded if anyone had any advice on where i stand, is this a case for constructive dismissal or am i over reacting, but i do feel been expected to pay a min of £120 a week in travel cost is extreme it's half my wages gone.
Thanks in advance for any advice, I am currently looking for a job closure to home but i am aware i can apply whilst on the sick.

I really feel for you but think it's time to look for another job. It's just hard out there...sorry!0

Have you had a look at your contract? It may stipulate that they can change your regular place of work, if this is the case then no it's not constructive dismissal. Why were your hours changed? Did they give you a reason? Is it possible for you to learn how to drive? You need to think of everything you CAN do before admitting defeat.0

Constructive dismissal is very hard to prove and to be honest, no employer Ive ever worked for has given any concern about my travel arrangements, Im not a driver either.
I think you need to get advice before you consider proceeding with this, however, if you were on a set contract with set hours, you may want to get advice as to whether you should have had notice about these changes, are you in a union? If you are I think you need to speak to them as soon as you can.0 -
Have you got your driving license?
Have you considered moving to be closer to your work?
Are there any colleagues that live near by, maybe car share? You could pay for their petrol as an incentive. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
