Question regarding fixed term contract

Hi
Quick question. I'm currently on a fixed term contract and have been for 2.5 years. Previously I was permanent in the same local authority for 4 years prior to that but took this fixed term to save being made redundant. My fixed term is due to expire 31.03.14 and unless they make me permanent and put my salary in line with my male counterpart I'm not interested in staying if I'm given yet another fixed term contract. So my question is do I have to accept it if they extend it yet again (been extended twice already) or can I decline? Also if I decline would that see me out on my ear without redundancy benefits?
Thanks!

You don't have to take the extension. You won't get redundancy, as you're not being made redundant, you are choosing to leave a job.
As for welfare benefits, leaving a job voluntarily will affect your entitlement to benefits for up to a year (more likely 3-6 months).
Is the male counterpart on a fixed term contract as well? If not, then you cannot state you want a raise as you are on two differing contracts, regardless of the job title etc.0 -
If you wanted to claim JSA you would simply say that the temporary contract ended. But of course it would be better if you found a job before it ended so that you have a job to move on to. Not easy finding a job though and you haven't got long but good luck.0

I think you can compare with someone on a permanent contract as long as they are doing the same work. OP- Speak to your union rep for proper advice on this.0
