The value chopped tomatoes cartel in action?!

Value chopped tinned tomatoes is consumed in great quantity in our household, usually get it from my local Lidl for 31p/400g and the quality is fine.

Just had a look on Mysupermarket and all three big supermarkets (Asda/Sainzbo and Mr T) notched it up to 34p over only few days.

Are they all buy this from the same supplier or are we talking price coordination? Lidl/Aldi still at 31p.

I can see why you might think that as I've spotted items which are always the same price whichever shop you go to.

If it's a brand, I wonder whether manufacturer keeps tight control on pricing, if it's own brand I assume they are all spying and competing.

But if I found out there was a cartel on any product I bought fixing prices to their advantage, I'd be annoyed but I wouldn't be at all surprised

ASDA still have the KTC brand tomatoes and beans on offer, but I note that it's changed from 4 for £1 to 3 for £1.

The supermarkets all watch each other as closely as we watch them all.

Tip 1. Plum tomatoes can be used whole or chopped. It's difficult to put chopped tomatoes back together again, if you need to use them whole.

Tip 2. Drain off the juice and chop them in the can. It's easier than chasing the slippery little [CENSORED] around the pan.

I could have sworn that the chopped toms have been at 33p in Lidl's for yonks. The whole toms have been at 31p.

And all the supermarkets charge the same for their value range toms. However, Lidl's are better quality than the supermarket value ones.

They both were 31p for ages.

Oh, not in my Lidl's. The chopped ones were always 2p more than unchopped. Weird, I thought Lidl's prices were the same at all the stores.

We go through so many tins of tomatoes I am staggered sometimes, however if the whole plum toms are significantly cheaper I buy them and use scissors.
In morrys just before xmas they were selling trays of 12/ 24 cans that worked out at 24p a can.
In Costco they sell trays of 400g tins that work out at 6.4 p a tin.
Only useful if you have a Costco card I know.
