Hi all,im new to this site so hope im posting in the correct thread,im in need of advice asap, please excuse my grammer as i dont have time to sit correcting it
here goes... my husband his employed he works 24 hours a week he has been there since october 2012.On the 18th of december 2013 they ended his contract due to financial strain in the company saying they couldnt find a way in which he could stay in the company, then a week later they told him he would be staying with the company and was due to start back again on the 6th jan 2014 so he had his contract renewed for another 12 weeks. He works for an agency who got him this job which was for 12 weeks ongoing.so now today is a thursday the day he normally gets paid(weekly) and his boss only told him yesterday that he has to do a week in hand again so we have no wages to live on only a bit of wtc and ctc. Also when his contract ended for a week he received a letter saying he would receive his last pay and any unused holidays,i know he had about 4 days holidays left and we never received any pay for them and his wages never went into bank on his last week so he had to get a loan off his boss.can anyone advise me on what to do? im at my wits end ive just checked my bank and there is definately no wages in so i dont know where to turn, surely we cant be expected to live on fresh air i have a 12yr old child.im having to leave all my bills just so i can live on ctc wtc.thanks for reading and hope someone can help me asap (and i pay nearly full rent and council tax as my 21 yr old son still lives at home).

Working a week, or more, in hand is pretty normal, so I don't think you can do anything about that. What you need to concentrate on is getting the last week's wage and holiday pay from the agency, what do they say about why it wasn't paid on time?0

Hi thanks for replying,we did get the last weeks wages as my husband had to go to his boss to lay it out for him,(we never questioned the holiday pay as we were more over the moon about him keeping his job)but we never received any holiday pay,my hubby has gone to work this morning with all the letters theyv'e sent us so hopefully something will get sorted, thanks again kind regards louise0

You need to get those 4 days holiday pay you're due....it's almost a weeks wageWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

This, to me, would be a priority.
OP, it's usual to work anything up to a month in hand without being paid. I know it's not perfect, but rarely is anything in life. An agency is also less likely to be able to offer advance, unfortunately.💙💛 💔0 -
Thankyou for your replies, hubby went into work yesterday and had a word with his boss,he told him that when they finished him for that 1 week he didn't receive his week in hand or his 4 days holiday pay,so on monday he is having a meeting with the finance team,so hopefully in a couple of weeks time we should get a normal wage his week in hand and 4 days holiday pay, fingers crossed
i will read the link you have sent me,thankyou all soo much,i will let you know how he gets on on monday, thanks again louise

Is this agency or employment contact with the employer?
it looks a bit fishy this break in service.0 -

Setting aside the weird gap in service issues... It is completely normal to have to work a certain amount of time in hand, I've had to work a whole month before.
I'd really suggest you head over the the DFW board and get some budgeting tips to help you get some savings set aside. If it was me, I'd be really worried about not having enough savings to tide me over for a week, especially if my employment situation wasn't completely secure.Sealed Pot Challenge #239
